許郁瑛 YuYing HSU
鋼琴演奏家 作曲家 編曲家 製作人
台灣出身的爵士鋼琴家、作曲家、編曲家、音樂製作人。從小受古典音樂薰陶，台灣大學 圖書資訊學系畢業後即赴紐約深造，取得紐約州立大學帕切斯學院爵士鋼琴演奏碩士學位 (Purchase College, SUNY, Master of Music) 畢業論文主題在於研究爵士鋼琴大師 Keith Jarrett 於 1960 年代末期及 1970 年代初期在鋼琴三重奏與鋼琴獨奏等不同形式之下的即 興演奏手法。
許郁瑛演出足跡遍佈法國、荷蘭、比利時、義大利、上海、香港、澳門、印度、新加坡、 韓國、美國、 日本、台灣爵士樂與跨界音樂類型各大音樂節與展演空間...等，並和國內 外知名音樂人合作，如:爵士鼓傳奇人物Albert "Tootie" Heath 爵士鼓大師 John Riley 豎 笛與薩克斯風大師 Paquito D'Rivera 葛萊美獎提名編曲家/小號手 Michael Philip Mossman 小號手 Alex Sipiagin Brian Lynch 奧地利國際知名小提琴家 Benjamin Schmid 法國鋼琴即興 大師 Jean-François Zygel 義大利低音提琴手 Giuseppe Bassi 台灣鼓王黃瑞豐老師和作曲家 温隆信老師...等。
2019 年以〈第三章:印度、義大利與我〉一曲榮獲第 30 屆金曲獎「演奏類最佳作曲人 獎」，2018 年以其個人第三張創作專輯《happened, happening 現在》榮獲第 29 屆金曲 獎三項大獎肯定:「演奏類最佳專輯製作人獎」、「演奏類最佳專輯獎」、「最佳演奏錄 音專輯獎」。
許郁瑛自 2022 年起受邀擔任張惠妹《aMEI ASMR 世界巡迴演唱會》嘉賓，巡演現正持續 中。2022 年受邀於NSO 擔任《LA LA LAND 樂來越愛你》電影交響音樂會首席爵士鋼琴家 ，近年也多次參與光雕展演創作，也為VR 作品與動畫短片配樂。
許郁瑛至今共發行五張爵士創作專輯: Untitled許郁瑛首張爵士創作專輯 》、《sentimotional 心情之間》、《happened, happening 現在》、《波傑克特三 PROJECT 3 和2023 年以黑膠和數位發行的原聲電子跨界實驗創作專輯 In the Cave 2020 年於YouTube 頻道《yuyinghsu music 推出節目《爵士郁瑛房》，介紹爵士樂基礎入門觀 念，希望推廣更多人喜愛爵士音樂。
An award-winning Taiwanese jazz pianist, composer, arranger, producer and educator, YuYing Hsu has performed in music festivals and legendary jazz clubs around the world with renowned musicians such as Albert "Tootie" Heath, John Riley, “Drum King of Taiwan” Rich Huang, Paquito D’Rivera, Michael Philip Mossman, Alex Sipiagin and Italian bassist Giuseppe Bassi.
Though Hsu’s background is jazz music, she has been invited as a featured guest to perform with classical virtuosos such as the internationally acclaimed Austrian violinist Benjamin Schmid, French pianist and improvisation master Jean-François Zygel and with the Ju Percussion Group and the National Symphony Orchestra (NSO) for the movie symphony concert "LA LA LAND". Hsu has also recorded for the influential Taiwanese composer David Loong-Hsing Wen for his jazz compositions and albums. In 2022 and 2023, Hsu has been invited as a featured artist to play at Taiwanese pop star A-MEI’s ASMR World Tour Concerts at Taipei Arena and Kaohsiung Arena. In recent years, Hsu has also made music for numerous projection mapping shows as well as scored music for artist Agi Chen’s VR work "Roaming in United-Islands," which is now part of the permanent collection at the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, and for illustrator Miss Charlie's animated short film "Me and Me".
Hsu’s original composition “CHAPTER III: INDIA, ITALY AND I” from her fourth album ‘PROJECT 3’ won 2019 Golden Melody Awards, the equivalence of the Grammys in the Chinese-speaking world, for “Best Instrumental Composer”. Her third album ‘happened, happening’ won three 2018 Golden Melody Awards for “Best Instrumental Album Producer”, “Best Instrumental Album” and “Best Instrumental Recording Album”. Hsu has recently released her fifth solo album ‘In the Cave,’ a fusion of her original compositions, improvisational piano playing and electronic music that showcases Hsu's willingness to take risks and experiment with sound.
Hsu holds a Master of Music degree in jazz piano performance from Purchase College, State University of New York. Her thesis focused on jazz piano legend Keith Jarrett and his style of improvisation in piano trio and solo in the late 1960s and 1970s. Hsu has brought her original music to Italy, France, The Netherlands, Belgium, India, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Macau, the United States and Japan over the years. Through her music, Hsu hopes to share her emotions, passions, and love of life with music aficionados around the world, one performance at a time.
